Tips for trips
Recreational area Kersko, reconstructed Bohumil Hrabal's cottage, Kuba Studio and open-air museum in Přerov nad Labem
If you are attracted to the Kersko recreational area, you can visit the Hájenka restaurant, known mainly from the film The Snowdrop Festival, as well as Hrabal’s Cottage, where Bohumil Hrabal wrote his more unknown works such as Postřižiny, I served the English king or The town where time stopped. In the beautiful forest Atelier Kuba you can buy original ceramic products, especially the regionally renowned ceramic cats. All of the above places are set in the beautiful, pleasant surroundings of Kersko, where you can go by car or on bicycles, taking advantage of the network of cycle paths that lead through the surrounding countryside and take you to the nearby Polabské ethnographic museum in Přerov nad Labem, which dates back to 1895.
Zoo Chleby, adventure in Mirakulum in Milovice and visit to Botanicus Ostrá
The nearby family zoo was founded in 1997 and is the first official post-revolutionary non-state zoo in the Czech Republic. It offers experiential programs where you can spend the night at the zoo during the summer months, see interesting animals, see the pavilion of bears and lions, spend time with the monkeys or admire other foreign creatures. The zoo also has a large playground, photo corner, children’s play area and refreshments. 15 minutes drive from Chleby is the largest family-friendly amusement park in the country, with more than 300,000 visitors each year. The attractions built are situated on more than 12 hectares and offer a wealth of activities, attractions and enticements to spend and enjoy leisure time with the whole family. The trio of attractions is complemented by the Botanicus Craft Centre and Herb Garden in Ostrá near Lysá nad Labem.
Poděbrady Spa, natural swimming pool Lake Poděbrady, cruise ship King George and sightseeing train
The largest spa in Central Bohemia with a historic core and a very nice spa colonnade has gained fame for its cultural life, famous glassworks and flowers surrounded by a central spa park. Take the opportunity to admire the equestrian statue of King George, which dominates the town, experience a cruise on the King George cruise ship or take the opportunity to travel by scenic train from the Poděbrady Lock along the river to the confluence of the Elbe and Cidlina rivers, where you can refresh yourself and walk back along the paved road or take the scenic train again.
Loučeň Castle, the work of Bedřich Smetana in Jabkenice and the pleasant Jabkenice Natural Park
Loučeň Castle is the fifth most visited castle in the Czech Republic, especially because it is an important Baroque monument with original interiors surrounded by a large English park and an interesting unique set of 12 labyrinths and mazes. The castle hosts regular and unusual costumed tours, picnics in the castle park and themed castle festivals. Within easy reach of the castle is the Bedřich Smetana Memorial and the 566-hectare Jabkenická Natural park, which was restored in 1964 and is now used for breeding fallow deer. On the area of the game preserve grow large deciduous forests, in which several ponds have been established and around which a pleasant walking path called Smetana’s Walk, about 3 km long, leads.
